The Catron County Historical Society, founded in January of 2008, is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to preserve, present, educate, and inform by increasing the knowledge of Catron County history through outings, programs, oral history interviews, and a compilation of books pertaining to Catron County.

We are in the process of developing a museum and visitor center, continuing with an oral history library and book library.

The future of the CCHS is with the members and volunteers who help to preserve the history of Catron County.

Events 2023

Stay connected with history in Catron County.

Held at the museum.

Wednesday May 17th 1:00 PM
Our treasurer, Barbara Adams will be talking about early homesteaders in the area, and how they, having few financial assets upon their arrival, "made do" with just what was available to them. Her family settled here in just that manner. They "proved up" on their land built homes and schools, and helped each other to survive.

Saturday June 17th 1:00 PM
Nettie Carrejo will talk about Grandma Nellie's milk cow, and that is a fascinating story about how things were handled "back in the day." You will not want to miss it. Nettie's family has a long history in this area.

Saturday July 8th at 1:00 PM
Dr Jerry (Don) Thompson will talk about the Pie Town area and the book he had published on that subject in the past year. Jerry grew up in our area and went on to get a doctorate in history and is still teaching at a college in Laredo,Texas. He has been very supportive of our historical society and has given several programs for us over the years.
